Macbook

June 14th, 2010

Just a slim 1.08 inches and lightweight at 4.7 pounds, the stylish new MacBook takes up little space on any desk (or carried around in a backpack or briefcase). It has an innovation seamless, very strong unibody enclosure with a curved shape that makes it simple to carry and put in and out of your bag. The tough polycarbonate material will protect it from the day to day bumps that can happen at work, school or during travel. With the most recent MacBook model, the base itself has a unique feel. A non-slip material covers the surface, so your new MacBook won’t slip, whether you have it on a desk, table or even an airplane tray.

The LED-backlit 13.3-inch glossy widescreen display on the new MacBook takes visuals to a higher level than ever before. Every document, video, picture and game is presented in rich detail. Its LED backlight provides vivid colors along with instantaneous full-screen luminosity when the computer is opened. Its 1280×800 resolution also provides a wonderful balance of vivid color and high readability while still remaining portable.

There isn’t any button on the latest MacBook Multi-touch trackpad since the whole thing serves as a button. This means you have lots of space to maneuver your fingers and click, no matter where you want to go. Its trackpad is designed with a sleek glassy finish that is comfortable to the touch. Use this to work on well know functions like right clicking or scrolling with two fingers like Multi Touch motions: pinch to make the letters bigger in a document, turn your fingers around to move photos, swipe to pass through web pages, and other activities.

The highly portable MacBook hasn’t sacrificed any important features for the sake of its portability. It features a full-scale keyboard engineered to respond to touch and comfortable to use. It is a simple design with an ideal fit into the unibody enclosure, so you will feel comfortable regardless if you are typing a fast email or writing a long research thesis. The keyboard also offers you single button method of controlling music and videos as well the Dashboard and Expose Mac OS X features.

The areas to connect and the MacBook ports such as the MagSafe power, Gigabit Ethernet, Mini DisplayPort, USB as well as the in/out audio are all cleverly placed on the notebook’s same side. Thus, your cords will be neat and manageable, and plugging or unplugging equipment is simple and handy.

The MacBook benefits from superior engineering inside and out. When you turn the device over, you’ll notice a seamless, sturdy, single-piece bottom case without a visible battery compartment. Why? The new MacBook has a lithium-polymer battery that is contained within the enclosure itself. As well as being very durable, this combined design reduces the parts that take up a lot of space needed if there was a removable battery. This makes more space for a bigger battery that lasts a maximum of 7 hours with only one charge in one area that is slim and lightweight. When you take off the bottom case, you will see a basic inside set up that makes it simple to put in extra memory or a bigger hard drive.

The MacBook had been developed in a way to make it more environmentally friendly than other computers. This model features energy efficiency, minimal toxic matter, and recycled construction material.

Features-
As soon as you open up the new Macbook, the shiny LED backlit background shows itself with a beautiful, big screen to highlight your pictures, movies, as well as presentations with lifelike color. The 1280 by 800 pixels big screen resolution offers you a lot of space to do many tasks, but it is small enough to carry any place. In addition, the display is more green now than it ever was: energy efficient, not having any dangerous toxins, like mercury, and contains gas without arsenic.

Today you can bring your MacBook anywhere with no need for an outlet or electric adapter. The lithium polymer battery is built in and has a maximum of 7 hours with only one charge, which is ideal for extended flights, day long workshops, as well as long study hours. Being grateful to the progressive battery set up and charging ability, the MacBook battery can be charged again up to a maximum of 1000 times – with an average of approximately 5 years of use – and endures almost three times the normal lifetime of common notebook batteries. This decreases waste. As a result, the battery is especially ecologically conscious.

Your initial impression of the latest MacBook Multi-Touch trackpad might be a surprise. Because the whole trackpad serves as a button, it’s possible to click everywhere on its comfortable glassy surface. Since there’s no separate button, the trackpad also gives you more room to maneuver. And since you can use Multi-Touch movements, with one or more fingers to work with your documents, images, and applications like the scroll with two fingers, the swipe or rotate. If you use the right click, you can create a right click location on the trackpad or just use two fingers to push.

Using a MacBook, you have spectacular consumer-standard graphics that is excellent for well loved 3D games such as Spore, Call of Duty, as well as Sims 3. Quality graphics are offered daily with the NVIDIA GeForce 9400M processor with a maximum of 5x performance boost.3 Created with advanced architecture, NVIDIA graphics offer sleek, interactive game play, so you can get involved in the game societies with realistic color, exquisite detail, and coordinated motion – everything without decreased battery life.

Having a quick 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, MacBook sails through daily tasks, like sending emails, web searching, document work, spreadsheets, and iWork or Microsoft Office presentations (sold individually). A lot of horsepower is available for comprehensive processor activities like picture retouching in iPhoto, iMovie project editing and applying Garageband to write new songs, so you can use iLife suite to the best of your abilities. It can even run Microsoft Windows with sufficient speed. Even better, the MacBook includes a quality 2GB memory (can hold a maximum of 4GB), so you can use various applications easily and well.

Songs, pictures, and videos – along with documents and files – begin accumulating. Consequently, the MacBook furnishes amply storage capacity. It features a generous 250GB hard drive with upgrade opportunity to a huge 500GB, allowing you to have it all in one machine.

The Magsafe Power Adaptor has a magnetic, not a physical, connection. That way, you won’t have to worry about your new MacBook getting yanked off the table if someone trips over your power cord. Instead the power cord will simply detach, meaning you won’t harm the cord or your machine.

There’s also a LED on the connector that goes from amber to green to let you know when your MacBook is charged completely.
Access the Internet quickly any place with the built in Airport Extreme 82.11n Wi-Fi.5. Just like with all Macs, being a part of Wi-Fi networks couldn’t be easier. If you are already joined to a network, your Mac logs you on automatically so you can send an email right away, plus look at the web, or chat by video. Do you have a phone, headset, keyboard, or mouse with Bluetooth wireless ability? The built-in Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR technology makes it possible for all of them to connect to your MacBook — and it remembers all your devices as well.

The MacBook includes an integrated super-drive as standard option. Why is it so wonderful? You’ll be able to get the most of your music and movie collection. It’s possible to burn music or movie discs, or make song mixes yourself. Or the iDVD software that is included can make Hollywood type iMovie creations, and after this, you’ll be able to look at them on the DVD player.

The MacBook has a simple plug in and play power for your digital gadgets such as your camera, printer, external hard drive, mouse and keyboard, as well as an iPhone an iPod. You can simply connect them to an included convenient port. Would you like a bigger workspace? With the latest Mini DisplayPort you can link with Apple’s LED Cinema Display to expand your MacBook computer. Or, try hooking up a projector to look at your work on a bigger screen. A Gigabit Ethernet port comes with it, as well as a headphone jack that also functions as a audio in port, and a handy lock slot so your MacBook can stay safe.

Look near the top of the MacBook’s display and you’ll find a well-placed, near-hidden iSight camera that can shoot both photo and video. Use the attached microphone with the iChat software that comes with it, so you can be all places even though you are not really there. Talk to three of your friends on video, send a video to your mother, or do a client presentation. Take pictures quickly with your iSight Photo Booth plus include enjoyable photo effects. Or QuickTime X can be used for video recording and upload it to iTunes, MobileMe, or YouTube with just one touch. And better yet, you don’t have to spend time installing programs or setting your camera up.

As with all Mac products, iSight simply works, directly from the package.

The Environment –
All emissions that have to do with our products are taken into account in Apple’s life cycle analysis. This consist of unprocessed material extraction, creation, putting it in a package, shipping, a three to four times use, as well as recycling. Doing this analysis, we found that over 95% of greenhouse gas emissions by Apple are from products manufactured by us.

Greater efficiency of power supply – The power supply for the new MacBook is very efficient and wastes less energy in powering your computer. Less power is used, so your energy bills will be lower and you’ll be contributing less harmful emissions to the environment.

The latest in power management technology – Different from many Windows-designed Pc systems, MacBook uses energy saving hardware parts that function together with the operating system to save power. The Mac OS X winds down hard drives and goes into sleep mode using an energy saving LED backlit display. Your workload is balanced between the MacBook’s central and graphics processors. The Mac OS X doesn’t spare any chance at saving power, regardless of the amount. It also manages the processor in such a way that it cuts down the power between keystrokes. These are just some of Apple’s little power savings that make a big difference.

Qualified for Energy Star – The MacBook satisfies the EPA’s stricter energy consumption standards, so it qualifies for the ENERGY STAR rating. The ENERGY STAR 5.0 makes it better for power supplies and restricts the computer’s normal power use.

Less toxins – The hardest environmental issue that the current computer industry deals with is the existence of arsenic, Brominated flame retardants/BFRs, mercury, phthalates as well as polyvinyl/PVC in merchandise. Apple engineers made a lot of effort to take away BFRs and PVC out of the MacBook circuit boards, interior and exterior wires, connectors, insulation, glue, and other parts. Plus they have removed additional toxins that are usually part of notebook computer creation – deciding to use, for instance, backlighting without mercury and glass without arsenic for the display on the MacBook.

Its lifespan is as much as 5 years – Most notebook computers have removable batteries that need replacing every 1-2 years, resulting in a lot of discarded batteries. The MacBook, however, contains batteries that last up to 5 years, or 1,000 recharges. It only needs one battery while a regular notebook needs three batteries, decreasing waste and helping the environment. Also it helps to make certain the batteries are thrown away using a method that is best for the environment and Apple has a battery recycle plan in 95% of the locations that it markets to.

Smaller packages means minimized air transport – The new MacBook uses 53% less packaging than the original MacBook and 20% less than the one that came before it. Smaller packages are friendlier for our Earth. Smaller packages translate into more packages fitting on a single freight pallet. As a result, freight transport can carry more products. And because fewer boats and planes are used, CO2 emissions are lower. This would appear to be a small change, but it positively effects our environment.

Constructed of recyclable materials – Apple has cut down the extras when MacBook comes to the end of the road with its super efficient design and made of recyclable parts like good standard polycarbonate, aluminum, as well as magnesium, and these substances can be recycled again.

You can recycle your outdated PC at no cost – US residents can take advantage of Apple’s complementary recycling for discarded computer equipment when you buy a Mac.
Awarded the coveted EPEAT Gold rating – MacBook was awarded the top EPEAT Gold4 rating due to its breakthrough, eco-friendly engineering. EPEAT (Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool) considers environmental issues of an item depending on how recyclable it can be, the amount of power it uses, the way it is created and sold.

Macbook Pro

June 14th, 2010

The most advanced notebook to date is the Macbook Pro.
The focus is performance. The brand new MacBook Pro, available in 13-, 15-, and 17-inch models, is for you if you are interested in enhanced pro features, a state-of-the-art built-in battery, and a bright display with increased color intensity. Both integrated and discrete NVIDIA graphics processors are employed in all 17-inch and some 15-inch MacBook Pro models, offering twice the graphics punch. Even though it is extremely portable, MacBook Pro is fast enough to accommodate games and professional applications that are extremely graphics-intensive.

You can purchase the 13-inch model for as little as $1199, the 15-inch model for $1699, and the 17-inch model for $2499. Are you familiar with those Microsoft laptop hunter ads? Perhaps Apple has already responded with their own TV spots, but the MacBook Pros get back at Microsoft more effectively than any ad — through their superior performance.

Apple did two things at once, which normally would not go hand-in-hand. They lowered the price of the entire MacBook Pro line and simultaneously improved the specifications. The price range for the 15-inch model is now $1699 to a high of $2299, down several hundred dollars from the previous $1999 to $2499 range. Better yet, the 13-inch MacBook, which until now did not include Firewire or an upgraded screen, has been absorbed into the MacBook Pro family and now blends right in with the rest of the Professional line.

There are two other major changes in the design that make the Mac Pro much more appealing to the typical user. The replaceable battery has been eliminated and replaced with the same type of lithium-polymer internal battery that was previously utilized in the 17-inch MacBook Pro. This extends battery life, however it is no longer possible to change the battery on your own. For most users, this is an excellent enhancement. The batteries typically last five years as they are designed for 1000 charge cycles, averaging 200 cycles per year. Even if you have to charge it once a day, it will still give you three years of service before you will have to contact Apple with regard to the $129 replacement. (The $129 includes shipping, labor and disposal of the old battery.)

Following are the results of our battery life testing: 13-inch MacBook Pro – 3:31; 15-inch MacBook Pro – 3:46. We used the same test conditions as we had employed for the prior MacBook test — medium brightness, Wi-Fi on, keyboard backlight on low, H.264 movie. The result was approximately an extra hour of use on each machine. That is a pretty significant increase that results from a modification (a battery that cannot be replaced by the user) that most people will not even notice.

They also trade in the ExpressCard slot for an SD card slot. Apple claims that very few clients used the ExpressCard, but almost everyone has digital cameras or other devices that utilize SD. So for most of the clients in the mainstream, this was one smart choice. Moreover, if you cannot live without ExpressCard, the 17-inch MacBook Pro still has that feature, but it does not have an SD card slot.

The palette of colors that can be displayed by the LED-backlit display is 60% more than with the previous version of the component. This means that even though the 13-inch MacBook Professional costs several hundred dollars less than the 15-inch model, it includes a high quality display. As noted in our review, the previous 13-inch MacBook had an inferior screen that was distorted. This was especially obvious when you stepped away from the screen or viewed it at an angle. That isn’t true anymore. When compared to older computers we had on hand, we found that the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Pros appear virtually the same and have stronger color performance than the older computers.

The benchmarks paint a better picture. It could be that this is the first time the 15-inch has exceeded 3GHz (the CTO edition). In addition, the entire line can handle 8GB of RAM. Although we failed to test this 8GB configuration, we are quite anxious to find out how much it speeds up our routine work.
The sets of scores are consistent with the modifications in specifications with regard to the new machines. Scores have increased because CPUs have been improved. It is logical, therefore, that both the 2.53GHz 15-inch and the 2.53GHz 13-inch show virtually identical numbers. The only strange drop appears within the Integer area of Geekbench, in which each machine has dropped this year. A modification in Geekbench? A change in 10.5.7? We aren’t sure. These numbers are fantastic anyway.

Although the adjustable latch has been replaced by a screwed panel, you are still able to access the tough drive and RAM by taking off the ten screws and carefully pulling the back off. Everything should take less than ten minutes.

One less port is available on the 13-inch MacBook; instead, it has a single audio port for digital in and out. It is possible to utilize a $29 USB audio adapter if you must have simultaneous in and out and are not interested in purchasing a 15-inch MacBook Pro.

So are there any negative issues to discuss regarding the new MacBook Professional line? Not really. It is cheaper, faster, and has many more consumer-friendly features. For those who want a bit more portability, there is even a 13-inch model available. People who were waiting for bugs to be worked out of a new hardware design before upgrading (a smart rule of thumb when it comes to Apple products), can feel confident in doing so now — and they will get a far better deal, too.

Apple has put forth much effort to get rid of the toxins that typically go with notebook manufacturing.

Take the mercury used in CCFL backlights and the arsenic contained in the glass of traditional LCD for example. Apple manufacturers took out both by using LED technology without mercury as well glass without arsenic. You will not find PVC (polyvinyl chloride) or BFRs (brominated flame retardants) in the adhesives, shock mounts, insulators, connectors, internal circuit boards and many other components. Apple has taken these dangerous substances out of MacBook Air, the same way they have done for the new MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac Pro, and Mac mini; as well as from the Apple LED Cinema Display; and the iPod classic, iPod nano, iPod shuffle, iPod touch, and iPhone 3G.

A single piece of solid, recyclable aluminum makes up the precision unibody of MacBook air, which replaces dozens of parts. The raw materials in the MacBook Air can be reused in other products since aluminum is very desirable to recyclers.

We’re able to design the hardware and software for MacBook Air because Apple makes both. This helps us create a smart product that takes less electricity. For example, to decrease energy use, the hard drive automatically stops when not in use. In addition, your MacBook Air determines whether CPU or GPU processor is ideal for a given computer operation. Even the breaks between keystrokes are used efficiently, with the processor throttling down.

The MacBook Air backlit LED display conserves energy by using thirty percent less power than a conventional LCD display. When you enter a darkened room the display is designed to dim. All of these and more contribute to the MacBook Air’s impressive energy efficiency.
As a matter of fact, MacBook Air has the required reduced power established by the EPA as well as the U.S. DOE, which earned it an Energy Star certification. Aside from this, MacBook Air is in compliance with the latest efficiency requirements of the ENERGY STAR Version 5.0 Specification for Computers made before July 2009. This computer uses far less power annually than others because of ENERGY STAR 5.0’s very high efficiency limits.

The MacBook Air’s environmental features have earned it an EPEAT Gold certification, the highest there is. EPEAT, the Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool, will evaluate how much environmental impact a product has based on its recyclability, the amount of energy it uses, and it’s design and manufacture. Not many products, especially not notebooks, reach EPEAT Gold.

Apple achieves its environmental goals in an unconventional way — with its products, like the MacBook Air. Apple is different from its competitors, since it manages every part of the production of its computers. This way, Apple’s employees are more directly involved in reducing their carbon footprint. Fewer parts comprise the design. They are built with recyclable materials. They have made software that increases their energy efficiency. Green design is a result of the new standard.
